Agenda
Pre-work
Prior to attending you will receive a copy of The Leader's Compass, 3rd Edition and will be required to complete a first draft of your Leadership Philosophy (Leader's Compass). Please allow 3-4 hours for completion of all required pre-work.
Day 1
- Museum arrival, and a tour of the "Early Years" where we discuss how we learn and improve and the Wright journals.
- The Leader's Journal
- Managing a Leader's Style and Energy
- Leading with different styles — a visit to the Billy Mitchell display
- Aligning & Accomplishing Goals
- A tour of space program artifacts and a look at the POW experience.
- Personal Leadership Philosophy
Homework
Allow 1-2 hours to complete the required readings and exercises from Day 1.
Day 2
- Feedback
- The Importance of Precise Communication: Visiting a control tower mockup in the National Aviation Hall of Fame
- Creating a Motivational Climate
- A look at the famed B-17 Memphis Belle and a discussion of how people find motivation even in dire circumstances.
- Leveraging the Power of Conflict
- Working together — a tour of the Missile Gallery and a discussion of how the Army, Navy, and Air Force worked though interservice rivalry in the cold war.
Homework
Allow 1-2 hours to complete the required readings and exercises from Day 2.
Day 3
- Setting Leadership Priorities
- Understanding high-payoff activities — a look at spy satellites and how priorities are set when resources are limited.
- Accountability
- Making examples of accountability — a visit to Air Force 1 and talking about Harry Truman's 'The buck stops here' philosophy.
- Coaching to Develop People
- Preparing a Plan of Action
- Final Remarks and Shared Thoughts
